Whataburger Website

This 2014 update to the Whataburger site challenged us to revitalize just the homepage experience. A new primary navigation would have to live sitewide, so we had to build a system that could easily replace the current build in a minimally invasive way. Whataburger releases many limited-time products, so we had to showcase new items frequently while still touting the core menu that had made it famous.

PRIMARY PAGES

Home

Designed to showcase new products and announcements, help consumers into the purchase process, and share the brand story.

Mobile

Bringing such an immersive desktop experience to mobile devices required many iterations to get it right, but the final product was a success.

Tablet

With analytics showing an important percentage of traffic from tablets, the experience had to do more than simply “work.” It needed to be as specially crafted as the desktop and mobile versions.

PROCESS

Documentation

Wireframes were able to serve double duty as part of the extensive CMS instructions. Building a homepage that worked in so many new ways, required us to arm our client with easy-to-follow instructions to continue to add impactful assets and content.

Documentation

With a mission to have both primary and secondary messages on the homepage, thoughtful design practices were implemented to make sure the system continued to function. Well-vetted grid and spacing requirements ensured that messages would not conflict with one another.

ALTERNATIVE DESIGNS

RESPONSIBILITES

Lead Designer

I served as lead designer on this project, responsible for discovery, strategy, design, and finally working with our development partner. Because enticing food photography was so crucial to this redesign, collaboration between food stylists, photographers, and UX was crucial. The result was a homepage that truly allowed the products to be the heroes.
